Mosquito x Meat Hook Gallery

Mosquito Agency curates an exhibit of the work of UK painter Elsbeth Shaw and Canadian sculptor Calvin Dueck to inaugurate our new Gallery space.

We started Meat Hook Gallery (check our blog post Liquid inspiration to learn more about the origin of the name) as a space to bring together the material production of the six studios that make up McKinley Studios and to celebrate our many collaborators.

Mosquito Agency – our art consultancy studio – brought together the London-based painter and printmaker Elsbeth Shaw with Lego sculptor Calvin Dueck. Elsbeth’s striking records of fashion runways are produced with hundreds – sometimes thousands – of painted disks. With a passion for architectural precision and inspired by artists such as Yayoi Kusama, Bridget Riley, and Anni Albers, Elsbeth has created her own unique and vibrant narrative. Her work is growing in popularity, with Paul Smith recently commissioning a series of 6 large prints to be hung in his London flagship in celebration of 50 years in fashion.

Calvin Dueck has no formal training in fine arts yet has been producing obsessively refined sculpture made entirely from Lego for the past 7 years. The pieces in the show represent a monochromatic departure for the artist with geometric, minimalist textural pieces made exclusively of either white or black Lego.
