“Everybody on Earth is Feeling The Same Way As You”

Hindsight can reveal a thread of circumstances or crossing of paths that you don’t see in the moment. Over the past few years it seems like renowned novelist and visual artist, Douglas Copeland, and our destinies were intertwined.

From our studio windows we get a front row view of Coupland’s Northern Lights installation on the façade of the Telus Sky. Our paths crossed again while working with La Maison Simons on three new retail locations and their 3D Canada endeavour was in full swing, which resulted in Coupland’s acclaimed The National Portrait. And just a few blocks away from founder Walker McKinley’s residence in Vancouver they have become fast friends and neighbours.

So when Kim Spencer-Nairn and Pattison Billboards reached out to us to get involved on their billboard project, it made perfect sense to team up with Douglas Coupland and share a selection of his “Slogans for the 21st Century” in Vancouver’s Kitsilano neighbourhood, along the Arbutus Greenway.

COVID may have restricted our ability to visit museums and galleries, but the benefit of having art in your life does not have to disappear this season. It just might look different.
